What is a Plant-Based Diet?
But, what the heck is a plant-based diet?
A plant-based diet is where a large portion of your diet consists of plant-based products, and the amount of meat and animal-products is reduced – unlike vegan or vegetarian diets, where animal products are eliminated entirely.
Now, about those benefits!
Personally, plant-based diets are awesome for reducing the risk of developing obesity, heart disease, and diabetes. Upping the amount of veggies and fruits you eat, too, will improve most people’s general health and nutritional intake – so long as they are including lots of plant-based foods in their diet that are rich in protein and iron, such as lentils, mushrooms, nuts, and brussel sprouts.
Globally, the greenhouse emissions from meat-farms will be lessened – more people eating plant-based foods means less need for meat and animal products. So that’s what a plant-based diet is.
Why should you try out a diet like this though?
Cutting back on meat will actually save you money in the long run, as meat is typically more expensive than most plant-based foods – unless they are well out of season. Healthwise, eating less meat and more plants means a healthier, more active lifestyle.
More plants in your diet mean more nutrients, more veggies, and more sustained energy throughout the day. You might be surprised by how much your day-to-day will change with a diet like this. Plus, lessening your meat intake will help kick obesity in the butt! More energy means living a more active life!
Hopefully, by now, you are at least a little intrigued by plant-based diets. So, here’s how to go about trying it out yourself:
- It’s all about slowly replacing meat for legumes into your diet. Slowly swapping the chicken for tofu and meat with kidney beans,
- Remember it’s all about balance. Like all diets, it’s important to have a well-rounded diet, with eating regularly fresh fruit, vegetables, and carbs, and,
- Remember you won’t miss out on all the fun stuff, you can still eat and animal-based products, just not as frequently as before – steak night can still be a weekly thing!
And what a great way to kick off a plant-based diet, or just to quench your thirst, than with a fresh Zummo! Start living your best life!
