You’ve probably heard the word “fresh” associated with a lot of fruit and vegetable products. It can sometimes sound like another buzzword like organic, gluten-free and superfoods.

But for the sake of produce, for something to be classified as “fresh” it has to be:
  • Be recently harvested
  • Not tinned or frozen
  • Prepackaged juices

Now both definitions are equally valid in this conversation. When you scroll through Instagram, the most aesthetic “food porn” of people’s Saturday brunch often contains poached eggs, thinly cut tomato slices, lettuce leaves (purely for decoration and nothing else) and a wedge of grapefruit on the side. Because nobody cares that you had canned tuna for lunch. It has to be fresh!

Most importantly, fresh produce has a heaps of health benefits. Go figure. Now take oranges for example. Some orange juices are artificially flavoured to taste like real oranges. Even those that claim to be “100% orange juice”.

That’s where Zummo is different. You can literally watch the oranges go into the machine and come out as fresh juice! So what does this mean for you? Fresh oranges are packed with nutritional goodness such as:

  • fibre
  • B vitamins
  • vitamin A
  • calcium
  • potassium

Other nutrients contained in oranges such as vitamin C, fibre, potassium and choline are particularly good for heart health. This can also help to reduce high blood pressure, cholesterol and cardiovascular disease. However, processed juices that is often prepackaged and served in supermarkets often go through an extraction process that removes these nutrients.

Not to mention the waste of plastic bottles, cans or worse non-recyclable packaging! But I hear what you’re saying. Prepackaged juices also contain extra added sugar that has negative effects on the body. Isn’t there sugar in fruit?

Yes, there is. But fruit contains natural fructose which is not harmful when consumed in excess. Unlike “free sugars” such as those found in coca-cola, chocolate or you guessed it, prepackaged juice, often contain increased health risks such as diabetes! Unlike natural oranges, which are actually considered a “diabetes superfood” according to the American Diabetes Association.

So whether you want to boost your Insta following or life-span, fresh is just simply best!
