As summer approaches, Aussies are turning to their favourite fruit and vegetables to satisfy those hot summer’s day cravings, and what better way to cool down than with a glass of icy, fresh Zummo juice!

Valencia oranges, one of the largest orange varieties grown in Australia, are now back in season and ready for juicing.

You may be asking, “Why should I care about Valencia oranges? Aren’t all oranges the same?”

Valencia oranges are our favourite orange here at Zummo. You may recognise them by their bright orange, pebbly rind, and their practically seedless insides. Oh my! The Valencia variety is also known to have a green tinge that makes them appear to be unripe, but, interestingly enough, this is all apart of the orange’s sun protection process to keep the inside fresh. This allows the orange to to thrive in tropical conditions like those here in Australia.  Now that’s a sun-smart orange!

A characteristic that sets Valencia oranges apart from other varieties and makes them better for juicing, is the fact that they do not contain limonin. Limonin is a chemical which can cause juice to develop a bitter or sour taste after juicing. This is why almost all of the world’s orange juice production is from Valencia oranges.

See, we told you they’re the best!

In addition to delivering a sweet and tasty juice, Valencia oranges are a healthy choice for snacking – just one valencia orange contains two days’ supply of Vitamin C. Perfect for the whole family!

The season for the Valencia variety runs from November to February, so there’s no time to waste. We know what we’ll be juicing for the next few months!

Be sure to stop by our Zummo kiosks, or grab a fresh juice from one of the many outlets that utilise our amazing Zummo juicing machines to taste Valencia orange juice for yourself!
